Name: Amanda Mealing
Treatment received at AVC: LASIK
Why you decided to have treatment:
I had an astigmatism, so contact lenses never sat properly in my eyes, but I had to wear them as it was difficult to work, drive, live without them. On set, the heat from the studio lights along with tiredness and sore eyes would make daily contacts wither which made focussing tough later in the day. Also, for premieres and charity functions the option of wearing glasses wasn’t mine.
How was the AVC Experience?
I was very nervous of having laser treatment. So much so I cancelled my appointment twice. Third time lucky though. When I finally plucked up the courage I couldn’t have been happier. Instantly I felt happy and secure in the evident experience and confidence of the team at AVC. I was informed of every detail and reassured that if at any point I was worried, we would stop. I was in control, but I never needed to be.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
Within hours of the treatment my vision was amazing. It makes me realise how much of my life I have missed by not seeing well enough. All the searching and panic over lost glasses or contacts are gone. I an just get up in the morning and go! I can buy sunglasses off the shelf. I’m so much freer. I just wish I had done it sooner.

Treatment received at AVC: Lasik Wavefront for both eyes
Why you decided to have treatment
I have always been quite a lazy person when it comes to contact lenses, so I was always having problems with them. I found them to be a real inconvenience. Being a really keen sportsman, I was constantly losing my contact lenses, which obviously made playing the sport really difficult.
I am an especially keen mountain biker, and during a ride at Morzine in 2009 I had a really bad experience. There was a lot of dust from the track, and my contact lenses were constantly trapping it into my eye. This was really painful and I knew something was wrong, but I wanted to enjoy the rest of my holiday so I carried on regardless. When I got home I was in a lot of pain and knew I had to go to the optician. The optician informed me that I actually now had two scars on my eyes as a result of the dust. This was a serious wake up call for me. I then decided I wanted to get the treatment done straight away.
How was the AVC experience?
People may think I am a bit odd, but I can honestly say I enjoyed my experience. I didn’t feel at all nervous. All of the AVC team genuinely feel like good friends to me now.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
It has given me so much more confidence in everything that I do, especially in the sport I take part in. I would recommend that anyone who has serious problems with their eyesight should get this done. I would especially urge younger people not to put it off, because it really does make such a difference to your life.

Treatment received at AVC: Lasik with Wavefront
Why you decided to have treatment:
Having laser treatment was something I had always really wanted to do, but held back from getting it done. But after wearing contact lenses for nine years, I eventually got really fed-up with them, so decided to go for treatment.
How was the AVC experience?
I cannot speak highly enough of AVC. I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the entire AVC team. When I booked my initial consultation I was pretty nervous and my only objective was to find out more about the treatments available. As soon as I met Mr Pillai and the team I felt absolutely comfortable and I trusted them straight away. They answered all of my questions and I knew I would be safe in their hands, which is why I decided to have the treatment done.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
Apart from the ease of not having to put contact lenses in everyday anymore, I’m a very keen swimmer and it has made such a difference to me now that I am able to see whilst swimming.

Why you decided to have treatment:
I have been short-sighted all my life and then developed astigmatism. The real problem came with driving as I couldn’t wear my contact lenses anymore; this was really the point at which I decided to have treatment as it was getting to the point where I wouldn’t be able to drive.
How was the AVC experience?
Brilliant! I was recommended AVC by a friend and I contacted them straight away. Whenever eyesight problems crop up in a conversation, I will always encourage people to go and have a chat with AVC about what they can do to help.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
Just waking up in the morning and being able to see clearly is amazing. I don’t have to fumble around for my glasses. Everything in life is that bit easier. I can read labels properly and drive with clear vision. I also used to have to buy hypoallergenic make so that my eyes weren’t irritated by my contact lenses, it is much easier for me to shop for beauty products now that I don’t have to buy specialist products.

After Lasik: Top Tips for a Speedy Recovery

You might be surprised to read that recovery after Lasik laser eye surgery is relatively quick – most people can drive and return to work a full day following surgery. While this is the case, the recovery process is still essential. So, at AVC we always recommend that our customers do everything they can to help the process along.
Here are AVC’s top eye care tips for a speedy recovery:
• At night, wear the protective shields we provide you with following treatment with us
• Remember to use your special eye drops to encourage healing
• Avoid rubbing your eyes and try to minimise the amount of makeup you wear for up to two weeks afterwards
• Bad luck for water babies – stay away from those swimming pools for a month!
• Try to avoid dusty or smoky environments which are going to be just plain aggravating
Finally, don’t worry if your vision seems a little hazy after Lasik. It is perfectly normal for vision to fluctuate for up to six weeks following treatment. That said, even at this early recovery stage many people are amazed at how their vision is transformed. Some patient’s sight even meets that of good driving standard the very next day!

Wendy Beynon’s AVC Testimonial

Name: Wendy Beynon
Treatment received at AVC: Lasik
Why you decided to have treatment:
I had awful eyesight for ten years (-8 prescription) and in the end I just had enough of wearing glasses and contact lenses and wanted something more permanent. The cost of contact lenses was also mounting up, and so laser surgery seemed like a sensible financial move.
How was the AVC experience?
AVC were wonderful, so reassuring and I felt that they were experts. Mr. P was so merry, friendly and welcoming, I really felt at ease in his hands. Other clinics I visited were so cold and clinical – especially those giving the hard sell. There was none of this at AVC, they just answered all of my questions.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
For me, just being able to wake up in the morning and see is the most amazing privilege. People just take that for granted but when you’ve suffered with awful eyesight for the past decade, it’s these little moments that mean so much.

Name: Chris Oliver
Treatment received at AVC: Custom wavefront Lasik
Why you decided to have treatment:
I’d worn glasses all day for 26 years, and really felt the time was right for me to look into alternatives. With a toddler son, I was finding that playing rough and tumble games was a constant battle not to get my glasses damaged. The cost of frames and lenses for my high prescription was also proving expensive and every year we were looking for a replacement pair as the old glasses got scratched. I’d also recently completed the Cheshire Triathlon for charity and found that competing and training in glasses was really difficult. The discomfort of not being able to see properly in the water and then biking and running in my daily glasses was not ideal. After doing extensive research and even though it was a distance for me to travel, I decided to make an appointment at AVC.
How was the AVC experience?
I’ve found the team at AVC to be approachable, friendly but at all times professional. In the initial consultation my eyes had a thorough assessment before Mr Pillai advised the best course of action. He explained how they would handle my complicated prescription and what was expected as a result. At no time did I feel pressurised and the information I received allowed me to make my own mind up about having treatment. You get the same level of service before, during and after the surgery, and I actually look forward to going down to meet up for aftercare with Mr Pillai and his staff. They really do care about the quality of your vision, and offer advice, support and answer any concerns you might have.
How has your life changed post-treatment?
For me it literally has been life changing. I’ve discovered a new level of confidence which has allowed me to pursue new career opportunities that weren’t open to me with my previous eyesight. The freedom to swim while seeing clearly, playing safely with my son and not having to worry about reaching over for my glasses first thing in the morning is a great feeling. It was a big decision for me, but I’m certainly glad I made the call.
